Robbie DeEsta (Holliday) Vursels went home to be with the Lord at her home in Edmond, OK on August 13, 2019, at the age of 91, with her family gathered around her. Robbie was born on June 26, 1928 to Joe Danman Holliday and Lillian Fay (Miller) Holliday in Roosevelt, OK. As a young child, her family moved to West Texas and then later returned to Kiowa County. Robbie accepted Jesus as her savior when she was 8 years old and was baptized in a farm pond in Roosevelt, Oklahoma. Robbie attended school in Roosevelt and Hobart, and she graduated from Hobart High School in 1946. During high school Robbie met the love of her life Howard Vursels, and they were married on June 30, 1950 at the First Baptist Church in Hobart, Oklahoma. After high school she attended Oklahoma College for Women and graduated in 1952 with her teaching degree. Robbie started teaching in 1966 and taught for 25 years in Roosevelt, Mountain Park, and Randlett Oklahoma. After retiring from teaching Robbie and Howard moved back to Hobart, Oklahoma where she lived until she moved to Luther, Oklahoma to be closer to her son and his family.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: DeEtta and Mark Johnson of Mountain Park, OK; Kayla and Joel Villarreal, Lauren, Marcus, and Jocelyn of Burleson, TX; Tim and Beth Ann Johnson, and Presley of Tipton, OK; Joel Johnson of Luther, OK. Cindy and Joe Hotubbee of Antlers, OK; Khristy and Frank Turnage, Alex, Jesse, Jami, and Jenny of Antlers, OK; Misty and Dustin Joyner, Shaelynn, Megan, Dusty, and Deacon of Chickasha, OK. Chris and Jenni Vursels of Luther, OK; Aspen and Jacob Papera, and Elijah of Luther, OK; Colton and Rachelle Vursels, Kimber and Ayden of Jones, OK. She is also survived by her step-sister Barbara Baxter of Iowa Park, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. Robbie was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Howard Vursels, her granddaughter Lacey Hotubbee, and her parents, step-father, brother and step-brother. The memorial service will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church of Luther, Oklahoma on Saturday August 17, 2019 at 10:00 AM. A private family interment will be later held at Rose Cemetery in Hobart, Oklahoma |
