Surrounded by family, Robert Bailey went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2018. Robert was born November 11, 1934 to Robert Earnest and Mabel (Green) Bailey. Robert Graduated from Wellston High School in 1952. He was known as a great baseball player and played American Legion ball. At the age of 19, Robert signed a professional baseball contract with the Baltimore Orioles. After a brief baseball career, Robert met Mae Zella Danker when her car was broken down at a dance. Robert came to the rescue, and they began kissing under the hood, where sparks flew. From that point on they were inseparable for 58 years. They were blessed with four sons and three daughters.
Robert owned Bailey Service Station in Wellston for fourteen years, and then carried mail for Wellston Post Office until his retirement in 1994. Robert lived life to the fullest. He loved fishing, and every Spring he could be found with Mae Zella and the boys at the river trying to catch the big one! Robert loved skeet shooting at the farm every week. He enjoyed watching his grandkids and great-grandkids playing ball all year round. (Pretty sure they got their athletic ability from Grandad). In the fall you could find the family at their hunting house out in Western Oklahoma. Robert also loved spending time on the farm, riding his tractor, and taking care of his cows. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Bonnie Danker, Elsie Harris, and Iona Lowery; two daughters Julie Mae Bailey and Sherry Bailey Brassfield; one granddaughter Lindsay Bailey Pittman.
