SGT. Gary Lee “Papaw” Jones
Gary was born in Stockton, California on July 1st, 1947. He was the son of Tommy Jones and Sue Luhman. Gary was raised in Shawnee, OK where he met Paula, whom he married on July 6th, 1966. Gary enlisted with the 101st Airborne in February of 1966. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor (the 4th highest award for military valor) for his extreme heroism on January 5th, 1968 and was seriously wounded on February 24th of 1968 and was awarded the Purple Heart. Gary and Paula moved to Luther in 1974. Although softball was very dear to his heart, he was responsible for starting the Luther Little League Basketball program. His Softball teams won many awards and was a testament to his leadership, heart and determination. He loved all of you girls!! Gary also coached his boys in baseball and most of his grandkids. Gary and Paula devoted most of their time to the ball fields. Gary is proceeded in death by his parents Tommy Jones and Sue Luhman. Two brothers, Jimmy and Steve Jones. Gary is survived by his wife Paula Jones, his brother Tommy Paul and family, daughters Crystal and Shawna, two sons Gary and Tommy, seven granddaughters, five grandsons, two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, Terry and Debbie laffoon, Jim Birk and a host of Nephew and Nieces. Papaw will be deeply missed by family and friends. “AIRBORNE” |
